Lutherans for Life

“Time and experience have taught me a priceless lesson: Any child you take for your own be-comes your own if you give of yourself to that child. I have borne two children and had seven others by adoption. They are all my children, equally beloved and precious.”

10 “I have come that you may have life, and have it abundantly.

11 I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” – John 10

Just for Laughs

4 Waiting Fathers

Four expectant fathers were in a Minnesota hospital waiting room while their wives were in labor.

The nurse comes in and tells the first man, “Congratulations, You’re the father of twins.”

“What a coincidence!” the man exclaims. “I work for the Minnesota Twins baseball team!”

The nurse returns a short while later and tells the second man, “You are the father of triplets.”

“Wow, what a coincidence!” he replies. “I work for the 3M Corporation.”

When the nurse comes again, she tells the third man that his wife has given birth to quadruplets.

“Another coincidence!” he tells her. “I work for the Four Seasons Hotel!”

At this point, the fourth guy faints. When he comes to, the others ask him what was wrong.

He moans, “I work for Seven-Eleven!”

Greetings in the name of our Risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

This week all of the news media seems to have been focused on the President’s State of the Union address to Congress. This annual speech has become a major spectacle for our politicians and media, yet it originally wasn’t intended to be this way. It was simply to be a report from the Executive Branch to the Legislative Branch on how things were going. In that vein, I will share with you my view of the “State of Faith”.

Perhaps I should start by saying that your pastor is doing well. I had my three month post-blood clot checkup, and though it wasn’t as good as the doctor had hoped for, it showed that the clot is dissolving and my health is improving. She cautioned me to continue taking it easy and keeping the leg elevated whenever possible. I no longer have pain in the leg, however, energy levels remain lower, and my breathing has not returned to normal. As I feel better my hours at the church have increased, and I have been able to make hospital and shut-in calls—though not as faithfully as I would like! I cherish your continued prayers for my recovery.

At our Fall Voters’ Meeting the voters passed a budget that reflected modest growth. To date, the offerings received have justified this decision. Thank you for your continued stewardship and faithful giving to the Lord’s house and to the proclamation of the Gospel.

We are blessed to have a large building in a fantastic locale. In order to maintain the building so that it is a clean, inviting, and safe place to hear God’s Word and to share in His fellowship, we are putting together a Five year Maintenance Plan. Our head Trustee, Phil, is working to lay out a schedule for needed repairs and upkeep. This includes big-ticket items, such as repairs to the parking lot, and smaller things such as replacing our fluorescent light bulbs with LED lights. Ideas, suggestions, and a helping hand are always appreciated.

The Board of Directors at Faith are also hard at work to improve our ways of conducting business. Efficiency reduces frustration and allows us to use resources wisely. Efforts in this area include a look at the Constitu-tion, and other processes. For example, we need to align our financial practices with those found in the LCMS Treasurer’s Handbook. We are also seeking to improve solicitation of and recruitment efforts for Board nomi-nations, and other positions within the congregation. Board minutes will soon be posted on one of our bulle-tin boards for those interested in knowing what is discussed and voted upon at the meetings. For the truly daring, you can also attend the meetings, which are considered “open” unless otherwise indicated.

Many of you have noted how large the choir has become. We’ve had many new singers join in the past six months and Mark has done a wonderful job integrating all of the voices. Their God-given talent is wonderful to behold on Sunday mornings.

Finally, I would close by saying that God’s Word continues to be proclaimed and taught in its purity. The Sac-raments are faithfully administered. The Holy Spirit is present and working in this place through the Word to strengthen faith and to motivate us to acts of kindness and love for our neighbors. With the Lord’s blessing, this congregation will continue to grow so that we are able to reach more people in need of the Gospel.

In Christ, Pastor Sorenson
